World Cup 2010

Vuvuzela! Oh, and soccer. Dismissed or misunderstood by many Americans, blah blah blah, whatever. I don’t care if Americans, in general, don’t care about soccer. I personally love top notch international athletic competition, be it soccer, water polo, curling, beach volleyball, doesn’t matter. The fact that soccer is the world’s most popular game does add a certain level of excitement that other sports just can’t match.

This World Cup, hosted by South Africa, is pretty special. This is the first time the World Cup has been played on African soil. It should be a great source of pride for the people of South Africa to play host to the world. From the perspective of a fan watching on television and the internet, they have done an outstanding job. There has been no shortage of great stories on and off the field.

I am looking forward to watching the rest of the knockout round. The excitement and intensity on the field has been building throughout the World Cup. I expect that to continue right into the finals on July 11th. There are some great match-ups coming up before then, most notably Germany vs. Argentina on July 3rd. I’ll be watching.
